Notes About Our Website
Users will notice that many of our emails addresses are actually spelled out such as “infoATtempleisraelakronDOTorg.” The reason for this is it is a low tech way of prevent email SPAM that so often comes with a large site like ours.
Email harvesters try to get emails and well, you know – send us junk emails that we don’t need. Filters take care of a great portion of this but this is a low-tech way of handling it.
As a user, please copy and paste a person’s email into your email program and take out the “AT” and the “DOT” and replace them with the real symbols – “@” and “.” Thanks.
WordPress
The website is a work in progress. It has been created in WordPress 2.7.1, we tried 2.9.1 and it did not seem to work and now we are on the lastest version (October 2010), 3.0.1. WordPress is a blogging platform that is popular on the web today. It can be used as a content management system which is how we are using it at the Temple.
There is a WordPress theme installed that helps to run some of the mundane back-end work and it’s called Thesis. Along with that are about a half-dozen additional plug-ins and widgets that help perform functions like the contact form on the “Contact Temple” page.
Who Did This?
Temple member Bruce Zake – that’s me – started the remake late in 2008. I’ve spent countless hours (I lost track after about 100 or so) working on updating, copying, pasting and generally pulling my hair out trying to get things up and running. By no means is the site complete, but over time, we’ll have a much better experience for all of our members and it will become more complete.
In late 2010, a committee consisting of Art Krakauer, Lenny Winer, Joyce & Mike Butlien, Scott Jaffe and Paul Baker was formed to bring the site to life and replace the old site that was being powered by Microsoft FrontPage. In January 2011, Josh Smith and Josh Berke joined the committee. The launch took place in March 2011.
